Exercises

The Course includes various files to help you get to know cards, as well as suggestions on how to shuffle and how to begin a reading. You can of course develop your own method, but you might like to apply these methods in the beginning and adjust them later if you want to. This way, you can be comfortable with the mechanics of reading, and don’t have to worry or wonder if you’re doing it right.

The benefits of having a method
A reader can just pick a card and start talking, and then pick another one and keep going – but this is not an easy way to proceed, and you can argue that it’s not the right way to go. This video is about the benefits of having a method that you follow so the mechanics of reading are taken care of and you are comfortable, so you can concentrate on making the most sense of the cards, and don’t have to worry if you are doing it right.

The first two cards in a Celtic Cross spread: Part One
The Celtic Cross spread uses ten cards. The first six are laid in the shape of a cross, but there is an initial cross shape created by the first two cards. This can be seen as a mini version of the whole spread, but it is sometimes difficult to put the first two cards together to get an idea of what they show. This video, as well as Part Two, offer some suggestions to follow so you handle this situation with more confidence.

How to shuffle cards
Some say the questioner should shuffle in order to put their energy into the answer; other readers do their own shuffling. Some have very specific steps to follow; others are more casual in their method. This video shows the correct way to shuffle, even though some will tell you that the shuffle doesn’t matter.

How I start a reading
This video outlines and demonstrates how I go about doing a reading. It’s my method that I have become used to over the years, and you might like to follow it or add some variations of your own. Either way, you will be confident and more able to focus onĀ  reading cards and not so worried about whether you’re doing it the right way.

The Tarot and not Astrology
Many writers on the Tarot encourage people to broaden their understanding of the Tarot by incorporating some astrology into their readings. This might seem to make sense since the Tarot and astrology are both, broadly, “occult”. This is a big mistake, however, and I explain why in this video.
